“Death is very likely the single best invention of Life.  It is Life’s change agent,” Steve Jobs is known to have said. “Not every historical figure meets a cinematic or heroic end,” Colin Scanlon writes in Mental Floss. While the article may have been designed to amuse readers, it delivers  a sobering reminder to us all of the importance of estate planning…

  • Famed Greek playwright Aeschylus died after an eagle dropped a tortoise on his head.
  • Famous dancer Isadora Duncan was strangled to death when her scarf became tangled in the wheel of her convertible car.
  • King Henry I died after eating a large helping of lamprey eels.
  • King Alexander of Greece was bitten by a monkey during a stroll on his palace grounds and died at age 27..
  • Composer Jean-Baptiste Lully accidentally stabbed himself in the foot with his conducting staff. The infection turned gangrenous and killed him.

“You can leave your family scrambling to make arrangements –or calmly carrying out your wishes,” Kimberly Hiss writes in Reader’s Digest, effectively expressing our purpose at Geyer Law – We call it Caring for Generations, helping you and your loved ones prepare for all of life’s twists and turns.. And, while we develop estate plans tailored to your current situation and needs, circumstances change, and we recommend re-evaluating your estate plan every three to five years.

“Life happens” is a familiar phrase.  As the Mental Floss reminders illustrate, death happens, too, sometimes in unexpected ways and at unanticipated times.

Estate planning is about so much more than documents, as author and speaker Amy Florian emphasizes, teaching financial professionals to support and communicate with their clients in times of transition, crisis, and grief.

As Indiana estate planning attorneys, we want to help you develop a plan that provides the peace of mind you need – and that your loved ones are going to need….
